Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits Bryan Mbeumo needs to improve but insists he will be important to the team’s success this season.
The 25-year-old completed his transfer from Brentford for a reported fee of £65m with another £6m potentially due in add-ons.
Mbeumo arrived at United after signing a five-year contract, which keeps him at United until 2030, with the option to extend for a further year.
He finally made his debut for Man Utd during their 2-2 draw against Everton in their final Premier League Summer Series on Sunday.
“I think he played well,” Amorim told his club’s official website.
“Of course, he needs to improve in a lot of things.
“You can feel the physicality of Bryan is not perfect, that is normal, but the first touch, the way he turns and connects to the other guys, the runs that he made, it is really important.
“And he is going to be really important to our team.”
