Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee has been ruled out of Bafana Bafana’s Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde.

The South African national team reported for camp on Sunday as they prepare for their clash against the Blue Sharks.

The first leg is set to take place on 1 September in Cape Verde before hosting them at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the return leg on 5 September.

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter revealed that Coetzee has been ruled out for both legs after picking up a foot injury.

He also confirmed that all overseas based players will join the rest of the squad in Cape Verde, including the likes of Keagan Dolly, Andile Jali, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Bongani Zungu, Thulani Serero, Tokelo Rantie and Kermit Erasmus.

‘Having discussed it with manager Barney Kujane, we found it that it made a lot of sense to ask European based players to fly straight to Cape Verde instead of coming here and then embark on another long journey to the Island,’ Baxter told Safa.net.

Bafana Bafana against Cape Verde kicks off at 20:30.
