Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso was proud of his side after they secured their qualification to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

The Brazilians secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over MC Alger in their final Group C clash in Pretoria.

Brayan Léon scored a goal in either half at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria to send Sundowns to the knockout stage.

The Tshwane giants qualified for the quarter-finals after they finished second in Group C with nine points, having won two games, drawn three and conceded one defeat in six matches.

“I think we made a wonderful match, wonderful. Understanding what to do in every moment of the game. Champions League is this, Champions League show the understanding of everything that’s happening in the pitch. We knew that we had to make a strong start and we did, we scored a goal, we needed to change the dynamic and bring something else,” Cardoso told SABC Sport post-match.

“But we knew that we had to keep the ball, play the game in order to find the second goal and not drop neither on the attitude neither on the stick of the goal. These boys deserve the world, today I feel so proud, so proud of the energy we have on the stands.

“I made an appeal on our fans to focus on what’s important, not let themselves distract from the way of togetherness we have and today the ubuntu spirit was on the pitch, stands united us. This is the family of Masandawana and that’s what we have to be until the end of the season.”
