Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has urged his side to stay grounded and focused on a match-by-match approach, emphasising belief, steady progress and the importance of continued support from the club’s fans as they build momentum in the Betway Premiership title race.

The Brazilians secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Buccaneers at the FNB Stadium, where a brace from Brayan León overturned Patrick Maswanganyi’s opener.

The result saw Mamelodi Sundowns cut Orlando Pirates’ lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings to just three points.

Sundowns now have 35 points from 16 matches, while Pirates remain on 38 points after 17 games played this season.

“I don’t know everyone, but I’m sure everybody is more close now, so let’s what we have ahead, we play match-by-match,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the game.

“Our mentality was to always try make match-by-match, believing on us, we don’t need to rely on no one.

“Ok, now we’re a little bit better. The team is the same that started the season, transformed obviously due to work, we need to believe of our supporters to stand by our side, like we saw in the previous match and let’s keep going, let’s keep going.”
