Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised goalkeeper Sipho Chaine for his outstanding form this season.
Chaine wrote his name in the history books after he surpassed Ronwen Williams’ record of 18 clean sheets in a single league campaign by claiming his 19th clean sheet in the Betway Premiership.
The Pirates shot-stopper achieved this feat in their 3-0 victory over Magesi FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Ouaddou emphasised Pirates’ collective defensive discipline and compact structure as key reasons for their success.
“You right, Sipho Chaine is doing a fantastic job since the beginning of the season. I’m very proud of him, but we have to credit really for the whole team you know,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV after the game.
“You know, when you see this team from the stands how they are able to work as a unit, to defend as a unit, very compact it’s not easy to score goals.
“Like I said, if you want to win the title you need definitely a strong defence but of course a good attacking animation because we don’t speak about that.
“We’re a team that’s scored a lot, a lot of goals we’re speaking about our strength but we scored I think more than 50 goals as well.”
