Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy insists he does not feel weighed down by pressure playing for the Soweto giants.
The 22-year-old has been played a crucial role in the heart of Amakhosi’s defence and has scored two goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.
Amakhosi will be hoping to end the season on a high when they face Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in their final Betway Premiership fixture.
McCarthy revealed instead that he uses outside noise and comparisons as motivation to push himself harder and reach even greater heights in his career.
“I wouldn’t say there’s pressure,” McCarthy said, as reported by Soccer Laduma.
“You know, there’s always outside noise, comparisons, and all of that stuff. I’ve had this question since the first time I started playing for the DDC reserve team.
“For me, I just turn that pressure into drive. I want to do what he did, I want to do better, and I just want to take it to another level.
“I feel like what we started doing in the pre-season tour in the Netherlands helped us as a team to become a unit.
“Despite the changes that happened throughout the season, we stuck to what we wanted to do and our main goals for the season, and that’s what happened.”
