Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gomolemo Kekana has reiterated that he wants to be the best every time he steps on the pitch.

Kekana was given his first start for the Brazilians in their 2-0 win over Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership.

The 19-year-old played the first 45 minutes on his debut before he was substituted and replaced by Thapelo Maseko in the second stanza.

The defensive midfielder says he feels blessed to have made his debut but is looking to build on his performance as he prepares for the next match.

“It was something I was really looking forward to so when it came, I don’t know how to put it into words but my mom was the first person I called. I told her I was going to camp with the team.

“But just being here around this group of players, human beings, it’s a true blessing. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here.

“Six months ago I wouldn’t have thought that I would start on my debut, maybe getting on as a sub or something but being told I’m starting, I wasn’t really pressured or anything because I know my capabilities and the quality around me.

“They guided me and showed me the way but you know we learn such things and we grow. I won’t say I’m still young because I know my capabilities; I want to be the best every time I step onto the pitch.

“I was really thrilled and looking forward to the moment.”
