Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has revealed that Lebohang Maboe was substituted early in the second half after picking up an injury.

Maboe played a crucial role in the heart of Amakhosi’s defence in their Betway Premiership encounter against Golden Arrows.

However, Maboe picked up an injury in the second-half and was subsequently replaced by Adolf Bitegeko on the hour mark as Chiefs were held to a goalless draw at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Da Cruz admits that an early injury to Lebohang Maboe disrupted the balance of his midfield after he was taken off in the second-half.

“We changed position for Maboe, unfortunately this injury arrived a little bit early in the second half so after it imbalanced the midfield,” Da Cruz told SuperSport TV after the game.

“But also the other substitution was to win the game, we changed an offensive player to win the game because we always try to win the game but unfortunately today, we touched the post and other opportunities but didn’t score.”
