Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso praised his side’s attacking intensity following their thrilling victory over Siwelele FC.

The Brazilians secured an impressive 7-4 victory over the Bloemfontein outfit at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

The win sees Sundowns maintain their three-point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership, with 68 points from 29 games.

Cardoso stressed that the team’s defensive balance and game management still require improvement as they edge closer to clinching the championship.

“I think we even scored the third one that was quite fair, not offside so when you reach so much and put so much energy there will be moments that you master in defence or you cannot do it,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the match.

“I understood the energy of the boys inside the pitch was to indeed go score and score, but really to achieve result in a match like this that could take us to seven, eight or nine goals you could not suffer four otherwise in the end it’s basically the same as winning three or four zero and our defence was not on that level.

“So, the defence could not really cope with the capacity that the attack showed, we also had less numbers in balancing the team of course. Well, important victory – three points we’re three points away from finishing the championship one match.

“Let’s win the match and see what comes from there. Also, it was important to understand that there was a moment I had to manage the team and obviously it’s not the same we understood the team dropped because we made some changes,” he concluded.
