Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has explained why it took the attacking midfielder Ethan Chislett seven months to make his competitive debut for Amakhosi.

Chislett arrived at the club from English League One side Port Vale FC before the start of the 2025-26 season.

The 27-year-old finally made his debut for Amakhosi in their 2-1 defeat to Stellenbosch FC at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

The attacking midfielder will be hoping to make his second appearance for the club when they take on arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the first Soweto derby in the Betway Premiership this season.

“So that he can be like that,” Ben Youssef.

“We waited for seven months so that he could be as good as he was today.

“We wanted to introduce him at the right moment. He was one of the best players.”
