Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has set his sights firmly on silverware as they prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mosimane will kick-start his second stint at the helm when Bafana take on Guinea in their Group D opener on Saturday.

South Africa are scheduled to take on Guinea when the two sides meet at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Johannesburg.

Mosimane says the ultimate objective is to end South Africa’s long wait for a major international trophy while acknowledging the steps required to achieve that ambition.

“It’s been too long, right, so we need a cup, I want to win a cup. I’m not saying I’m going to win it, I want to win it, that’s why I’m here and I think the players want to win the cup, right?” Mosimane said.

“So if we don’t try to win the cup, what are we trying to do? To qualify again? Of course you can’t win the cup if you don’t qualify. You know the levels and steps that we need to do, to win the cup

“But ja, that’s the objective; to try and win a cup, maybe in five years right? (chuckles)”
