Bafana Bafana defender Ime Okon says the squad is driven not only by personal pride and family, but also by a strong sense of responsibility to represent the entire nation as they continue their World Cup journey.

South Africa have made history, qualifying for the World Cup Round of 32 for the first time in their history.

Bafana Bafana will look to maintain their momentum when they face Canada in the Round of 32 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Okon says the overwhelming support from home has been a major source of motivation for the team.

“It’s very exciting, knowing that everybody’s behind us,” Okon told FIFA.

“The support we’ve been getting from everybody back home has really motivated us and helps us when we get onto the pitch.

“We’re not only working for ourselves and our families, but we’re working for our whole country back at home. That’s just one extra motivation for us to [leave it all] on the pitch.”
