Second half goals from Emiliano Tade and Bongi Ntuli guided AmaZulu past a lackluster Cape Town City in their round-of-16 Telkom Knockout clash on Tuesday evening at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Despite a poor start to their Absa Premiership season, CT City would still have been riding the high of lifting the MTN8 and would undoubtedly be targeting yet another cup run.

AmaZulu on the other hand were in desperate need of a confidence booster as they propped up the bottom of the Absa Premiership, although that was largely down to the six-point deduction handed down by Fifa.

The game started off in a cagey manner as both teams looked to find their feet and their rhythm.

It was, however, the visitors who had the first opening as Siphelele Mthembu fired a snap shot from the edge of the box, but it was way off target.

Ushutu then had a chance of their own as Tade slipped in Ovidy Karuru, his strike however, was cleared off the line after some desperate defending from the City backline.

Both sides struggled to create further chance in what was an extremely tight opening 45 minutes and both teams had to settle for a 0-0 score line at the break.

The game then sprung into life in the second stanza as both teams traded half-chances before the home side eventually grabbed the lead.

After a flowing move down the right flank the ball was cut back to Tade who was arriving at the edge of the box, the midfielder steadied himself and showed great composure to guide the ball past Sage Stephens in the City goal. 1-0 to the home side 63 minutes gone.

Only three minutes later and it was 2-0 after a terrible mix up in the City box. A long throw-in into the box which caught the City defenders napping allowing Ntuli to sneak in and squeeze the ball past Stephens from an extremely tight angle.

AmaZulu then showed great game management as they sat back and refused to allow Benni McCarthy’s men back into the game.

2-0 the final score as Ushutu book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Telkom Knockout.
