Hurricanes captain Brad Shields will start on the bench for England against the Springboks at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Shields, who played for New Zealand U20 in 2011, will make his Test debut for his adopted country if he comes on.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Nick Isiekwe, who has been in superb form for Saracens, earns his first Test start after Joe Launchbury was ruled out through injury. He will partner Maro Itoje in the second row.

Tom Curry, who played with Isiekwe for England U20 last year, starts at openside flank, with Chris Robshaw at blindside and Billy Vunipola at No 8.

Hooker Jamie George will scrum down alongside Mako Vunipola and Kyle Sinckler in the front row.

Coach Eddie Jones has tweaked the backline, with Elliot Daly shifting to fullback and Mike Brown to the left wing. Jonny May is on the right wing, while captain Owen Farrell and Henry Slade team up in midfield and George Ford and Ben Youngs resume their halfback partnership.

There is no room in the match 23 for Danny Cipriani.

Scrumhalf Ben Spencer will also make his Test debut if he comes off the bench.
