Stormers flyhalf Damian Willemse may miss his side’s Super Rugby clash against the Crusaders on Saturday with a calf injury.

Willemse was helped off the field during the second half of the Stormers’ after-the-hooter 34-27 loss to the Waratahs in Sydney and was replaced by the on-loan George Whitehead.

Now there are concerns that the 19-year-old may miss the crucial tie against the reigning champions in Christchurch.

Following his team’s defeat Stormers coach Robbie Fleck said Willemse was the only injury concern.

‘Damian has had to come off with what looks like a cork on his leg so we will see how he goes, but other than that we are all good to go.’

Stormers assistant Paul Feeney cast further doubt over the player’s availability, saying he will be assessed over the next two days.

‘It depends how he comes through in the next 48 hours. If we were playing on Thursday, he wouldn’t be able to play, so we are going to see how he goes over the next 48 hours. We will assess him day to day.’

Should Willemse not recover in time, it would leave Whitehead as the team’s first-choice flyhalf, with Jean-Luc du Plessis also out injured.

Wing Dillyn Leyds could also play at No 10, as he has previously played there for the Stormers and Western Province.
