Sharks centre Jeremy Ward has been cited for foul play following their 37-14 loss to the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria on Saturday.

The incident surrounds an off-the-ball tackle that Ward put in on Bulls wing Rosko Specman in the first half of the match. Replays showed Ward lifting Specman off the ground and dropping him dangerously, but he escaped punishment, with referee Marius van der Westhuizen choosing not to refer the tackle to the TMO.

Ward is alleged to have infringed law 9.18: a player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body makes contact with the ground.

The 23-year-old went on to score one of the Sharks’ two tries in the second half.
