Springbok prop Coenie Oosthuizen suffered a broken arm in Perth and will be replaced by Wilco Louw.

Oosthuizen was substituted in the 70th minute of the Rugby Championship match, which the Boks drew 23-23 with the Wallabies, before returning to the field in the 76th.

Louw started at tighthead prop for Western Province on Saturday in their 57-14 win against the Free State Cheetahs.

Oosthuizen will visit a specialist in Durban on his return to South Africa, while Louw is due to join the Bok squad on Monday evening in Auckland.

Bok coach Allister Coetzee said he was disappointed with the result in Perth, but pleased with the players’ effort on the night.

‘The Springboks will never be happy with a draw,’ said Coetzee at the post-match press conference. ‘I am, however, satisfied with the overall performance, because the team showed great character in their fightback. We had three linebreaks and no reward in the last couple of minutes.’

Coetzee said the most pleasing aspects of the match was his side’s defensive effort, and how they adjusted their game plan in the second half.

‘We also continue to scrum well and our lineout functioned well, plus we saw a massive improvement in our mauling tonight,’ added the Bok coach.

The Boks travel to Auckland on Sunday morning, and Coetzee will name his match 23 to face the All Blacks on Thursday.
