The Sale Sharks want to sign Springbok loosehead prop Steven Kitshoff and hooker Akker van der Merwe.

Kitshoff had a two-year stint with Bordeaux in France, before returning to the Stormers in 2017. The 26-year-old featured in all 14 Tests for the Boks last year, making seven starts.

According to Rapport newspaper, Sale have made Kitshoff an offer that will be difficult for him to refuse.

Van der Merwe made his Test debut in 2018 when he came off the bench against Wales in Washington DC. He earned another two caps as a substitute during the series against England, but played no part in the Rugby Championship or end-of-year tour.

Sale also want to sign the three Du Preez brothers – Jean-Luc, Dan and Robert – on permanent deals. Jean-Luc and Robert have been with the English club on loan from the Sharks and will return to Durban for Super Rugby.

Sale recently announced that Bok scrumhalf Faf de Klerk had extended his contract with the club until 2023.
