French referee Jerome Garces will be in charge of the Springboks’ World Cup semi-final against Wales on Sunday, while Welshman Nigel Owens will referee England’s clash with New Zealand.

Garces was in charge of the Springboks’ World Cup opener against New Zealand, and came under fire after the match, with many believing the Frenchman had missed a number of infringements at the breakdown and scrum in particular.

Garces also refereed the quarter-final between England and Australia. This Sunday he will be assisted by England’s Wayne Barnes, who refereed the Springboks’ quarter-final win over Japan, and New Zealand’s Ben O’Keefe. New Zealander Ben Skeen will be the TMO.

Meanwhile, Owens will take the whistle in Saturday’s semi-final between England and the All Blacks and will be assisted by French duo Romain Poite and Pascal Gauzere. The TMO for the match is South African Marius Jonker.

It will be the second time in a row that Owens officiates in a match involving New Zealand after reffing their quarter-final win over Ireland.
