Glenwood Preparatory School has issued an apology after enrolling and fielding two overaged boys in 2018 and 2019.
According to a parents letter sent out by Glenwood Prep principal Noel Ingle, the two pupils were enrolled at the school in Grade 6 in 2018 and were fielded in the school’s sporting teams in 2018 and 2019. They also played for the KZN U13 Craven Week team that won the unofficial final.
The principal states the school was duped as false documentation was provided that withstood ‘all scrutiny’.
However, with the assistance of Glenwood High, the school discovered that the boys were older than they claimed and that they used documentation which belonged to two younger boys.
Glenwood Prep has informed the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union, who has started its own investigation into the matter.
‘I extend my sincere apologies to all players, parents, officials and spectators from our school and our opposition schools,’ Ingle said in the letter distributed to parents and which was circulated among chat groups.
‘We enrolled two pupils into the school in Grade 6 in 2018 who provided the school with false documentation. The documentation withstood all scrutiny as it was genuine. The two players concerned used documentation that belonged to two younger boys.’
SARugbymag.co.za understands that bone-density tests were conducted on the two boys and found that they were aged 17 in Grade 8 in 2020, so would have been 15 – and three years over age – when they enrolled at Glenwood Prep in 2018. Glenwood High has asked the boys to leave the school.
This is the latest schoolboy drama to hit the KwaZulu-Natal schools circuit, with DHS recently deciding to sever all sporting and cultural ties with Glenwood High due to a breakdown in relationship allegedly related to pupil ‘poaching’.
