Coach Swys de Bruin has named a 40-man Lions squad for this year’s Super Rugby season.

Team captain Warren Whiteley is one of 12 Springboks in the squad. The others are fullback Andries Coetzee, wings Ruan Combrinck and Courtnall Skosan, scrumhalf Ross Cronjé, prop Ruan Dreyer, centres Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Lionel Mapoe, flyhalf Elton Jantjies, flank Jaco Kriel, hooker Malcolm Marx and lock Franco Mostert.

Kwagga Smith, who is currently playing for the Blitzboks, has also been included.

New additions to the Lions’ ranks for this competition are Jacobie Adriaanse, Ashlon Davids, Aphiwe Dyanti, Willie Engelbrecht, Marco Jansen van Vuren, Len Massyn, Christiaan Meyer and Marnus Schoeman.
