The Hurricanes recorded an emphatic 43-22 win over the Crusaders in a pre-season friendly on Friday.

It was a result that will certainly please Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd, but he will also be fully aware that the defending Super Rugby champions took the opportunity to blood 18 newcomers in Greymouth.

The Canes led 36-5 at one point, but a three-try burst midway through the second half made the scoreline look more respectable for the Crusaders.

Hurricanes – Tries: Jonah Lowe (3), Ben Lam, Julian Savea, Finlay Christie, Vince Aso. Conversions: Jackson Garden-Bachop (2), Ihaia West (2).
