Former Springbok wing Cornal Hendricks has left French club Toulon without getting onto the field.

On 9 December, the three-time European champions announced the signing of Hendricks in a deal that would keep him at the club until the end of the 2016-17 season.

Hendricks, who earned 12 Test caps, had to stop playing in 2016 because of a serious heart condition.

Having undergone a series of medical and physical tests at Toulon, the club announced on Friday that he would not be playing for them after all.

‘It was decided, for the good of the player, that he could not engage with the Toulon club,’ read a short statement.
