Rassie Erasmus will resume his duties as SA Rugby’s director of rugby this week when his World Rugby suspension from all rugby activities comes to an end.

Erasmus was handed the two-month ban on 17 November 2021 after his infamous 62-minute video in which he criticised match officials following the first Test between the Springboks and British & Irish Lions.

With the two-month mark set to expire this week, Erasmus will officially be able to start work again as the director of rugby, but he will only be able to get involved with matchday activities again in October.

One of Erasmus’ major tasks will be in planning for South Africa’s success beyond the 2023 World Cup in France.

The world champions are in a good position going into the global showpiece as the average age of the players in the team is between 27 and 28 years old.

However, it is likely that a few experienced players will play their final Test matches at the tournament, which makes the search for their successors important to the Springboks.
