Bidvest Wits have eased into the final of the MTN8 after securing a 0-0 draw against Cape Town City that saw them triumph 3-0 on aggregate.

A shock turnaround never looked likely after Wits’ dominant display in the first leg of the tie and Gavin Hunt’s side continued where they left off as they looked to take the initiative at Cape Town Stadium and won a succession of early corners.

Having created numerous openings, the Students had the ball in the back of the net through Elias Pelembe after 24-minutes, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.

Daine Klate came close around the half-hour mark before Thabang Monare played in Eleazar Rodgers, but the striker skied his effort over from point-blank range to conclude the first-half action.

With City barely threatening, Wits came close to working an opportunity in the 55th minute but no player was able to fire off a shot despite some threatening play on the edge of the area.

Gabadinho Mhango wasted a couple of good chances in quick succession for the Students before goalkeeper Darren Keet was called into action late-on deny City their best chance of the game.

However, at the final whistle, neither side had succeeded in creating a breakthrough. The draw means Wits progress comfortably through into the final, where they will face either Mamelodi Sundowns or Chippa United.
