KV Kortrijk striker Lars Veldwijk is relishing the chance to make his Bafana Bafana debut against Senegal at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in their World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.

The new Bafana Bafana striker, the latest member of Shakes Mashaba’s side, was looking sharp at the opening training session at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The 25-year-old is looking forward to playing for the national side when they take on the Lions of Teranga on Saturday.

‘I have been well received here; the people are fantastic, they have welcomed me and my new teammates are terrific. There has been positive energy all round and I am so excited to be here,’ Veldwijk said.

‘The only minor setback has been the blazing heat but that is why we came here earlier; by Saturday we would have adjusted and should be fine.’

The former Nottingham Forest striker says he would like to make the South African supporters proud and help his side reach the World Cup in Russia.

‘They [Senegal] are [a] good team but I think we should have a good measure of them on Saturday, more so because we will be spurred on by our own supporters.’

Bafana Bafana against Senegal kicks off at 15:00.
