Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were officially crowned 2021 Hollywoodbets Super League champions following their impressive 7-0 thumping of Ma-Indies Ladies at Wits Sports Stadium this past Sunday.

The Brazilians successfully defended their league title to add another trophy to their cabinet this season after they won the Cosafa Caf Women’s Champions League as well as the inaugural Caf Women’s Champions League to complete the treble.

Andisiwe Mgcoyi, who scored twice against Richmond United in their last game, was six goals shy of the Hollywoodbets Super League top-scorer award as she managed to net a total of 27 goals in the league to finish tied with JVW Girls forward Nompumelelo Nyandeni.

“I am very thankful to everyone that has believed in me even when the goals were not flowing. No matter how many runs, assists and great passes a striker has, the most important unit of contribution for a forward remains the goals. It has been an amazing season for me and I am very proud of these achievements. It is only natural for other teams to strive hard to dethrone us from our winning pedestal. Nevertheless, we plan to come back better and stronger,” Mgcoyi told her club’s official website.

“I am dedicating my goalscoring awards this season to my teammates because they made it possible. One of my aims was to score 25 goals across all competitions this season and I am very grateful because I scored more than I wished for. This golden boot award will motivate me to do more for the team. Overall, it was a remarkable season for us and I am very excited to be a part of this record-breaking team,” concluded Mgcoyi.

Meanwhile, head coach Jerry Tshabalala expressed his excitement after their treble-winning season, which was rounded off by clinching the league title on the final day.

“Words are not enough to describe the way I feel concerning our achievements this season,” Tshabalala said.

“I am proud of my squad as their dedication paid off in the end. It is a privilege to win every competition that we participated in and this league trophy is a reward for all the sacrifices we have made this season.

“We plan to keep up the good work next season and after conquering South Africa and the continent, we plan to extend our dominance beyond Africa as our rise is limitless,” concluded Tshabalala.
