Mamelodi Sundowns secured their first victory in the Caf Champions League Group stages following a 2-1 win over Enyimba at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brazilians produced the first chance of the match in the 13th minute when Tebogo Langerman sent a curling free kick towards Thabo Nthethe, but Sundowns defender’s headed effort was blocked.

At the other end, Enyimba pressed forward as Ifeanyi Onuigbo forced Sundowns goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands into making a great save before the ball fell to Onuigbo again, but he couldn’t direct his header on target.

Pitso Mosimane’s men enjoyed a good spell of possession as Leonardo Castro handed Sundowns the lead in the 42nd minutes as Keagan Dolly’s low cross was not dealt with and the Colombian forward bundled the ball home.

Enyimba levelled matters in the 59th minute when Moses Oluwadamilare produced a strike from 35 yards out following a poor punch from Sandilands saw the ball fall for Oluwadamilare Ojo, who hammered home the volley.

The Brazilians reclaimed the lead in the 78th minute as Wayne Arendse’s shot was not properly dealt with by Enyimba goalkeeper Moses Ocheje, with the assistant referee correctly calling the ball had crossed the line.

Wayne Arendse reclaimed the lead for the home side in the 78th minute when a ball floated into the box fell kindly for the defender who powered home the finish despite Enyimba goalkeeper Moses Ocheje getting a big hand on it.

Sundowns were able to hang on to their lead to see out the remainder of the match and secure a semi-final spot in the African tournament.
