Thulani Serero’s uncertain future at Ajax Amsterdam looks far from being resolved as the player has been priced out of a return to his homeland.

Serero, previously a key player at the Dutch outfit, has seen his stock plummet after a number of injury during the 2015-16 which limited his impact for the Dutch side.

Serero has also failed to partake in pre-season with the club following an injury he suffered for Bafana Bafana against Gambia back in June. The 26-year-old midfielder was denied a squad number with the side for the upcoming season, it had been suggested the player could make a return to South African football.

Clubs in the Absa Premiership are reportedly keen on making a move for the South African but with a hefty sum likely needed to lure the star back to his home country, any move for the midfielder is likely to face almost insurmountable obstacles.

It is believed Serero currently nets around R6.1-million per season in the Eredivisie, a substantial wage for a local side. With Premiership sides unlikely to meet the player’s wages, Serero could well be left stranded in the footballing wilderness with the South African set to train his current club’s reserve side.

Serero made just 16 appearances in all competitions for Ajax last term.
