Senegal qualified for the next round of the African Cup of Nations following their 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe while Tunisia claimed a 2-1 win over Algeria on Thursday.

The Lions of Teranga got off to a firing start and broke the deadlock in the ninth minute when Balde Keita set up Sadio Mane, who tapped the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Senegal then doubled their lead in the 14th minute when Henri Saivet scored from a free-kick from 25-yards out.

The Warriors created an opportunity at goal just before the break but Khama Billiat’s effort from close-range fell straight into the arms of Diallo.

However, Senegal came close to extending their lead after 58 minutes but Mame Biram Diouf was denied by Zim goalkeeper Mukuruva.

Zimbabwe went close to reducing the deficit to a goal in the 70 minutes when Billiat’s curling effort went just wide of the upright.

Senegal pressed forward in the hope of extending their lead but Mkuruva produced a number of fine saves to deny Keita and Cheikhou Kouyate.

However, the Lions of Teranga have now moved to the summit of Group B with six points, while Zimbabwe remain at the foot of the table.

Meanwhile, Algerian fell to a 2-1 defeat against Tunisia in their second Africa Cup of Nations Group B encounter.

The Tunisian took the lead in the 49th minute through Aissa Mandi own goal before doubling their lead from the penalty spot in the 60 minute by Naim Sliti.

However, Algeria pulled a goal back in stoppage time when Sofiane Hanni was his strike hit the back of the net to make it 2-1 and that is how the scoreline remained until the final whistle.
