The South African Police Service has confirmed the arrests of two individuals involved in the fan violence at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

On Saturday night in Durban fans stormed the pitch in reaction to Kaizer Chiefs losing 2-0 to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

For the second time this month after the violence following a defeat to Chippa United, the players and officials were forced to run off the field at full time as they were pelted with missiles and chased by fans who stormed the pitch.

The hooligans the proceeded to attack security guards, destroy broadcast equipment and set parts of the stadium alight.

South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala has confirmed that two people have been arrested after the chaotic scenes at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

‘Two people have been arrested and will appear before the Durban Magistrate Court on Monday,’ Gwala told KickOff.com.

Despite rumours circulating on social media about the death of a female security officer, after a video clip showing the security guard being savagely attacked, Gwala has insisted that there have been no fatalities.

‘As far as I am concerned no-one died. There are police and security officers that were rushed to hospital after they sustained injuries during the accident,’ Gwala added.
