Platinum Stars stunned newly crowned Telkom Knockout champions Cape Town City after beating them 4-0 at Athlone Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.

Dikwena got off to a bright start in the opening exchanges of the match and took the lead in the fifth minute when Isaac Nhlapo found the back of the net after being set up by Ndumiso Mabena.

However, six minutes later and the visiting side doubled their lead when Tintswalo Tshabalala put the ball into the back of the net after Mabena claimed his second assistance in the space of six minutes.

Platinum Stars dominated the match in the opening 45 minutes and went into the half-time interval with a 2-0 lead over the TKO champions.

Dikwena continued where they left off in the first half and came close to extended their lead three minutes into the second half when Benson Shilongo wasted a great chance in the final lead as the scoreline remained 2-0.

Cavin Johnson’s side pressed forward and eventually bagged their third goal in the 76th minute when Bongi Ntuli rounded the City goalkeeper before guiding the ball into the back of the net.

However, Dikwena all but sealed their victory when Mabena netted his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute as his side walked away with all three points.
