Platinum Stars general manager Senzo Mazingiza has confirmed that Malawian midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr is being assessed while on trial at Dikwena.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Township Rollers has been deemed surplus to requirements at Bidvest Wits, according to KickOff.com.

However, the midfielder now has an opportunity to impress head coach Cavin Johnson in the hopes of signing for Dikwena for the current season.

Stars general manager has revealed that Phiri Jnr is currently training at Dikwena and is yet to be assessed by the club.

‘Phiri is here, training with us and we are still looking at him,’ Mazingiza said.

When the Absa Premiership returns, Platinum Stars will welcome Bloemfontein Celtic to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on October 15.

Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
