Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung believes Bidvest Wits are deserving winners of the Absa Premiership title because of their performance throughout the whole season.

The Clever Boys claimed their first-ever PSL title on Wednesday after they defeated Polokwane City 2-0 at the Bidvest Stadium through goals by James Keene and Daine Klate, with a game left to play.

The Amakhosi chairman believes that Wits fought hard since day one and are deserving winners of the 2016-17 Absa Premiership title.

‘Congratulations to the Clever Boys. Well done. They fought a good fight from the beginning, leading to this historic achievement,’ Motaung reacted after Bidvest Wits became league champions.

Motaung has praised Gavin Hunt and his technical staff after winning their first title in 96 years of existence.

‘This is indeed a momentous occasion in the history of the league and the club itself. It is a remarkable moment because Wits never won the league since their formation in 1921,’ he added.

‘Compliments to their Chairman, Brian Joffe, and his management team for leading the Clever Boys to this immense glory. Coach Gavin Hunt and his technical team have done a marvellous job throughout the season to form Wits into a force to be reckoned with.

‘I also wish to congratulate Gavin for scooping his fourth league title. That’s a fantastic achievement. I also shouldn’t forget to mention Daine Klate for collecting his sixth league championship medal.

‘We will receive Wits at our last game of the 2016-2017 season. We will be gracious hosts and honour the occasion with dignity,’ Motaung concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs will next welcome Bidvest Wits to the FNB Stadium when the two sides meet in the final Absa Premiership clash on Saturday.

Kick-off has been set for 15:30.
