Mamelodi Sundowns veteran midfielder Surprise Moriri is on the verge of leaving the club after negotiations over a new contract have stalled.

The 36-year-old’s contract with the Brazilians expired at the end of last season but the veteran is still motivated to continue playing football.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he admires what the midfielder has done for the club over the years but feels that Moriri’s time at Downs has come to an end, reports KickOff.com.

‘Surprise the legend… He has contractual issues with Sundowns. He is the legend and played so many years here,’ Mosimane said.

‘I am not happy with the situation that he is not here but let’s be realistic also why he is not here. He wants to play. His contract is up and we have to renew his contract so that he could play.’

Mosimane believes that Moriri will not see any game-time if he stays with the clubs after the clubs signed attacking duo Sibusiso Vilakazi and Yannick Zakri.

‘As much as he is quality, a very good guy in the dressing room with no controversies but how much game-time is he going to get? There is ‘Vila’, Zakri, Percy [Tau]. Let’s be honest if you checked the number of games he played before last season. The games are getting smaller and smaller,’ he added.

Over the course of his career, Moriri has managed to score a total of 32 goals and assisted 11 from 167 appearances in all competitions playing for both Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns.
