Ajax Cape Town have announced the signing of Lebohang Mokoena on a two-year deal ahead of their next clash against Orlando Pirates at the Cape Town Stadium.

The 29-year-old, who joined Mamelodi Sundowns from Orlando Pirates in 2009, could only manage four appearances for the Absa Premiership champions last season.

Mokoena says he was impressed by the way the Urban Warriors handle the transfer and he insists that they made him feel welcome from the moment he met the coaching and management staff.

‘This has given me a totally different view to football. Ajax Cape Town are very professional in everything that they do, on and off the field,’ Mokoena told Ajax Cape Town website.

‘I was so impressed with the way the coaching staff and management handle things, they really made me feel like part of the team before we even.’

Mokoena broke into the Orlando Pirates first team squad at the tender age of 17, making his PSL debut with the Buccanneers in 2003.

Mokoena, who’s extensively known for his pace and dribbling ability, showed great consistency making just under 100 appearances for Pirates.

‘It’s really great to see the amount of young players who are given a chance to play at Ajax Cape Town and I’m happy to be part of it. I want to thank the coach and management of the club for giving me this opportunity,’ he added.

‘I am very excited to wear the Ajax Cape Town jersey and I’m ready to give my all for the club.’ Over the course of his career, Mokoena has scored 12 goals and assisted 17 from 123 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
