Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Levy Mokgothu is reportedly closing in on a move to Maritzburg United following his release.

Mokgothu was one of a long list of players the Glamour Boys have opted to cut from the payroll as they prepare for a major overhaul of their squad. C

Chiefs failed to pick up any silverware this term, and finished a disappointing fifth in the Premiership standings.

The defending champions took just 46 points from their 30 matches this term, leaving them an incredible 25 points short of their usurpers Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the standings.

Mokgothu, for his part, looks set for an immediate return to the PSL with reports suggesting Maritzburg United are keen on acquiring the player’s services.

‘For now it’s Levy who has so far attracted interest from Maritzburg United,’ a SoccerLaduma source reported.

‘It’s not the first time that they are interested in him and he could be joining the team in pre-season.’

Mokgothu failed to make a single appearances for Chiefs this term, having made little impact for the club since his move from Mamelodi Sundowns back in the 2013-14 season.
