Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp says he sees plenty of room for improvement in his side following the goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Team of Choice have made a bright start to the 2016-17 season after picking up four points from their opening two matches in the Absa Premiership.

However, Middendorp says he is determined to ensure United do not have the same misfortunes as they did last season and he is striving to get the best out of his squad.

‘It’s not enough,’ Middendorp told the Maritzburg United website.

‘Only one point is quite disappointing. We had more potential in the build-ups. Too many simple mistakes offering our opponents service coming into our third. We can do much, much better.’

The 57-year-old coach admits that his squad has not formed a unit yet, declaring that they still ‘think individually’ but he believes his side can do better this season.

‘It’s not acceptable. If you have your teammate in the box in a better position, just pass and let him do the job. We don’t yet have that understanding with each other. We still think individually,’

‘I don’t want a messy season with this club again this season. That’s not my standard. I want to do it right. We assembled a team with a lot of personality and quality. We can do better.’

Maritzburg United will now welcome SuperSport United to the Harry Gwala Stadium in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
