Supersport United’s talented young forward Khanyisa Mayo has returned to South Africa following his trial stint at Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Mayo left the country to advertise his skills in Portugal a month ago after impressing scouts at the Durban U19 international tournament, hosted in KwaZulu-Natal earlier this year.

Mayo produced a series of dazzling displays in the tournament and was crowned top goal-scorer and best player, a run of form which has since earned him a call-up to Thabo Senong’s Amajita squad.

Matsatsantsa spokesperson David Skhosane confirmed Mayo was now back in the country awaiting Sporting’s decision on his trial performance.

‘He is back. We’re still waiting for his assessment report,’ Skhosane told KickOff.

Mayo, son of former Kaizer Chiefs star Patrick Mayo, has been tipped to have a bright footballing future.
