Swedish side Hacken sporting director Sonny Karlsson has confirmed that former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite has signed for SuperSport United.

Hacken’s sporting director confirmed that the defender has failed to settle at the in Swedish club and was homesick.

‘Sometimes life comes before football,’ Karlsson told Expressen. ‘He has his children in South Africa and is homesick.’

Mashamaite, who was on target for his Swedish side in their 3-1 win on Sunday in his final match for Hacken, who currently sit in fifth place on the Swedish league standings.

The former Wits defender spent four months on the sidelines earlier this year with a knee injury, could only manage to  make nine appearances for the club last season.

Matsatsantsa have now called a press conference to make a ‘player announcement’.

Over the course of his career, Mashamaite has scored 18 times and assisted a further six from 198 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of Bidvest Wits, Stars of Africa, Kaizer Chiefs and Swedish side BK Hacken.
