Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has praised new Orlando Pirates boss Muhsin Ertugral’s impact in taking the country’s football forward.

Ertugral has a reputation for developing young South African talent, having done so in each of his stints with Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Last term, Aubrey Modiba was named Young Player of the Year as the Turk led Aces to fourth in the standings.

‘He [Ertugral] has proved that he likes a young team and it has paid dividends most of the time,’ Mashaba old KickOff‘When you looked at Aces play, it was not all about skills. It’s a level of fitness and the pace as well.

‘If you look at Modiba, he’s very slow but put him on the field of play and he’s a changed player altogether, but I think if we could get more Muhsins the future of football is bright in this country.’

Mashaba believes the development of more grassroots coaches is essential to taking the South African game forward.

‘At times there are courses and sometimes we have to conduct a search to find out if people attend these courses because most of us are looking at the top and we don’t want to go at the bottom.

‘We need to research and find out how many of our coaches on the ground have certificates,’ he concluded.

Ertugral will officially take the reins at the Buccaneers from July 4 having put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
