Polokwane City is set to make defender Walter Maponyane their first new signing ahead of the upcoming season.

Maponyane joined National First Division side Royal Eagles in January 2016 from Mamelodi Sundowns, before spending a short-term loan at Chippa United.

The 28-year-old defender is now on his way to Polokwane to team up with Rise and Shine for next season, a source close to the player told KickOff.com.

‘He is joining Polokwane City. Both parties have agreed on personal terms,’ the source said.

Rise and Shine are expected to announce a new coach before the start of the 2016-17 season following the resignation of Julio Leal, who left the club due to personal reasons.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender could only manage to appear eight times in the Absa Premiership last season.
