Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka believes his side showed a real fighting spirit to clinch a 1-0 victory over Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium on Wednesday.

The Glamour Boys secured their first victory in the Absa Premiership from a goal by George Lebese from the penalty spot in the 65th minute of the match.

Amakhosi were award the penalty after Auguston Leonard was judged to have pulled William Twala down, however, replays suggested that the foul was committed outside the penalty area.

The 27-year-old believes his side created enough chances and put up a good fight to claim all three points in their Absa Premiership clash.

‘I think the difference was the chance that we got, we managed to put it away,’ Maluleka said after the match.

‘It was a penalty but nonetheless, we created it, and we fought together as a team. We fought together till the end.’

The former SuperSport midfielder has stressed the importance of working as a unit and to not concede any goals.

‘I just want to thank the technical team and my teammates for supporting each other. You know it’s been a very difficult stage for us,’ he added.

‘But getting back to the game, it was very important for us to make sure we stay compact at first, not to concede goals. We knew we would create a lot of chances at goal, and luckily we got one today.’
