Platinum Stars striker Ndumiso Mabena says he is ready to lead his team to silverware this season.

While opposition’s defenders will be on the lookout for Mabena not to cause them harm, his coach, teammates and all associated with Dikwena will look to him to inspire Dikwena to success this season, reports the Platinum Stars website.

The club’s Player of the Season and top scorer last season revealed his desire to contribute to coach Cavin Johnson’s side domestically and continentally, where Dikwena will participate in the Caf Confederation Cup.

‘I want to add value by helping the team to achieve one or two trophies and doing well in Africa. That will be a big reward for me,’ Mabena said.

Mabena, who scored ten goals as Dikwena finished third in the Absa Premiership last season says he doesn’t want to put himself under pressure with a set target.

‘Every time I am asked about a target I don’t say it. I just tell myself that I have to bury each and every chance that I get in order to get as much goals I can,’ he added.

The Bafana Bafana striker is set to lead Dikwena’s attack when his host SuperSport United at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace and Mabena says he and his teammates have been relishing the chance to begin their new campaign.

‘We know SuperSport’s strengths and weaknesses. It won’t be an easy game for us or them. It’s the first game of the season and everybody will be looking to do well in their first game. We have to grind even if it comes to an extent that we play a scrappy match but getting the results will help us going forward in the season,’ the striker added.

The 29-year-old has called on Dikwena supporters to once again rally behind the team as they compete for silverware this season.

‘I want to plead to the fans that they come to the stadium in numbers. It’s our first game and they know the role that they play. They must just come and support and we will give them positive results at the end of the day,’ Mabena concluded.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
