South African referee Daniel Bennett has been appointed the official referee for Friday match when Zamalek play Wydad Casablanca in the first leg of the Caf Champions League semi-final.

Bennett will be assisted by Zakhele Siwela and Stevens Khumalo as the Egyptian giants take on the Moroccan club at the El Borg Arab Stadium on Friday.

It is unusual that the Confederation of African Football to have appointed a referee from a country still involved in the final four of the Champions League, but this can also be seen as a sign of confidence in Bennett’s integrity, according to KickOff.com.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns will play away t0 Zesco United on Saturday in the other semi-final clash, which will be officiated by Hamada Nampiandraza from Madagascar.

Bennett had previously officiated the Champions League Group A match between ASEC Abidjan and Al Ahly of Egypt which ended goalless draw.
