Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has encouraged the club’s players to make their mark in the club’s legacy.

Pirates commemorate their 80th anniversary next year and will be hoping to celebrate the milestone with a successful season.

The side went trophyless last term, but Khoza was nevertheless pleased by their feat of reaching the Caf Confederation Cup final, where they were defeated by Etoile du Sahel.

‘The coach Muhsin Ertugral and the players that we are bringing to the team, there is one question that we have,’ Khoza explained to KickOff.

‘We asked them,”What are you going to help improve the history of Pirates because the club is not about being in the top eight or being in the top three, that’s count for nothing.” It is all to do about history.’

The chairman added that Ertugral had come to the club to make history as well.

‘How is he going to improve the history of this club whichever way you want to look at it,’ Khoza said. ‘We didn’t win any silverware last season, but we went to the final of the Cad Confederation Cup, that’s history.’

Pirates will begin their new Premiership campaign against Golden Arrows next Wednesday.

The match will be played at Orlando Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
