Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has confirmed that Muhsin Ertugral has resigned as head coach of the club.

The 57-year-old Turkish tactician revealed that he would step down as head coach of the Buccaneers after their humiliating 6-1 thrashing against SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.

Khoza announced at a press conference that he has accepted Ertugral’s decision to part ways with the Soweto giants.

‘We will have a meeting this afternoon to discuss a standby coach because there’s not much in the market,’ Khoza said.

‘Internally we will ask one of our coaches to take over until December. I don’t want to say who it is, because he might say no.’

However, Khoza stated he will look for a replacement within the club and has named Augusto Palacios as the first choice to take over at the Mayfair.

‘Maybe we will ask one of our assistants, or maybe we will ask coach Augusto, we will only know this afternoon.

‘But I guess if coach Augusto is available, he is the most senior coach we have, but there is too much in his hands because he is too much in development. But if he is available, I think he will be the one we ask to take over the reins.’

Orlando Pirates will hoping to bounce back when they take on Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

The match at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
