Ajax Cape Town defender Sirgio Kammies says new head coach Stanley Menzo keeps the squad on their toes during training sessions.

The 18-year-old was one of seven academy players promoted to the first team at the beginning of the 2016-17 season.

Kammies is trying to stay consistent while improving his performance.

‘My biggest challenge on the field is to continue working hard in order to improve my game as a footballer,’ he told the Ajax Cape Town website.

‘So that I get to where I want to be in my football career. Off the field I want to remain disciplined and respectful.’

The South Africa U20 defender said Menzo keeps the team working hard during training to improve their performance.

‘The new head coach helps us a lot on and off the field. He has already had a one-on-one chat with me regarding my game. He told me where I needed to improve.

‘He also shouts a lot during our training sessions, which is good because it keeps us on our toes.’

Ajax Cape Town will host Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is at 20:15.
