Platinum Stars coach Cavin Johnson insists that he is delighted with Dikwena’s participation in two pre-season tournaments.

Dikwena will take on the likes of Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows in two pre-season tournaments.

Johnson’s men will play in a tournament featuring Wits, Maritzburg and Arrows at Markspark this coming Sunday before Dikwena faces the Buccaneers in the second edition of the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup at Moruleng Stadium on August 13.

Johnson told PlatinumStars.com that he will field the strongest team in order to gauge the progress of his charges.

‘We are going to take the best team to the tournaments but we will see what happens. Everything is going well and we have prepared well. We won it last year. We are going to go out to do our best. It’s a barometer to see how far we are before the start of the season,’ Johnson.

‘To play those teams now is good for the players to see how far they are. At this time of the pre-season, we would like to play in these tournaments so that we can be in tune with the PSL.’

Johnson will be trying different strategies during the tournament for the season ahead and he is keen to see how the club’s promoted youngsters will fare.

Dikwena will be hoping to defend and retain their Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup title when they enter the tournament.

Kick-off has been set for 15:00.
