Highlands Park coach Gordon Igesund says his side kept their shape and stuck to their plan as they drew 2-2 with Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

The Buccaneers twice held the lead courtesy of Tendai Ndoro but the Lions of the North equalised through goals by Thanduyise Khuboni and Lindokuhle Mbatha respectively.

The former Bafana Bafana coach believes his side ‘took the game to Pirates’ after creating more chances in attack than Augusto Palacios’ side but insists that he was delighted to have collected a point at the Orlando Stadium.

‘We conceded a goal very early in the game, and were in danger of conceding again if we didn’t keep our shape,’ Igesund said after the match.

‘But we kept our shape and kept to the plan that we had, and kept plugging away. If we look at the stats, we had 11 shots at goal and they had nine, so we took the game to them, but at the same token, make sure we didn’t concede another goal.

‘But I was happy today as the gaps between the lines were much tighter, we were much better organised and had a good structure and we didn’t panic.’

Highlands Park will be hoping to move up from the bottom of the Absa Premiership table when they welcome Ajax Cape Town to the Makhulong Stadium on December 14.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 19:30.
